Ray Maybus, Secretary of Navy, announced last week that he is pushing for the military to use 50% renewable energy by 2020.  There are great reasons for the military to move to solar and wind energy:
  • Solar and wind energy are extremely mobile, great for field operations that have to be set up and torn down at a moments notice.
  • According to Maybus the number one thing the military imports in the Afghan war effort: fossil fuels.  This is tremendous drain on resources and manpower.  Think of the things they could accomplish if they didn’t have worry about moving and guarding fuel sources into the battle zone.
  • The military has a great record of innovation in technology.  When renewable energy gets tested, used, and modified in a battle setting there are bound to be improvements to come that will benefit all of us.
This is mre great news in the world of solar power and renewable energy, it seems more people are finding practical uses for it everyday.  Check out the original story here.
