Hawaii Public Radio Goes Solar With A Solar Sphere Off-Grid Kit

Don Mussell of Hawaii Public Radio was looking for a solution to a problem we hear all the time.  The radio tower on the Mauna Loa volcano beams residents all over Hawaii their daily dose of news and entertainment, which is no small thing on the almost entirely rural ‘Big Island’.  But unreliable grid power, outrageous contractor estimates, and ample sunshine meant the solution was obvious:  solar power from Solar Sphere.

All four panels (270 watts each) in place, ready to be wired into the system.

We were able to get them a complete solar power kit with 4 230W Yingli solar panels, pre-assembled Outback off grid power controller/inverter/management system, and all the related bells and whistles.

Batteries delivered...    The view from the fence line on the road.      Bob Alder, happy to help with the heavy lifting!

Now the fine folks at Hawaii Public Radio, and more importantly their donors and listeners, know that they’re news is being delivered with the help of clean, renewable solar power.
