Solar Boat Project Ready to Set Sail

The students of Sunny Hills High School have been working diligently to build solar panels for a solar boat race, the Solar Cup, which starts tomorrow in Temecula, California.  Teacher Chris Peoples leads the effort every year to both win the race and teach his students valuable lessons in science, engineering and renewable energy.

This year, Chris was looking for an edge in the competition.  So he looked so Solar Sphere’s Solar Panel Kits for help.  Knowing that every ounce counts, Chris decided to build his own panels using our kits and set them on foam board to save weight.  He figures they reduced his boat weight from 275 lbs to 225 lbs, an amazing 18% reduction.

Hey Solar Sphere Nation, let’s wish the Sunny Hills crew good luck!
