The
ecologically minded spirit common in the Northwestern United States
has spurred the increased in use of Oregon solar power forward. Oregon,
in particular, has been a forward thinking state regarding the use
of solar power. There are many incentives for residents of Oregon
that build or retrofit homes and businesses with solar power systems.
Some of these incentives include:
• Oregon State Tax Credits: up to $1500 tax credit for installing
solar energy. This can help to off set the tremendous cost of installation.
• BPA Bright Way Solar Thermal Program is offered through local
utilities as an incentive for people who heat their pools with solar
thermal power.
• Energy Trust of Oregon Solar Programs is available to customers
of select local utility companies.
• Net Metering Law allows you to spin your electric meter backwards
when the solar energy harnessed by your system exceeds the amount
of electricity that you use. You send the excess electricity back
to the power company and you are paid for the electricity that you
create in excess of what you use.
Other incentives and programs are available for residents of Oregon.
For those living in other states, a little research will determine
which programs and/or incentives your utility companies and local
government provide. Oregon State Solar power is one of the most well
developed programs in the country and the programs and incentives
offered encourage and help citizens to incorporate solar power into
their lives with great results.
