Like
most anything, portable solar power has several advantages as well
as some disadvantages. In order for someone who is hoping to use a
portable system, he should consider the advantages and disadvantages.
First of all, the advantages:
• Environmentally friendly – Because portable solar energy
can take the place of things like batteries, it is certainly an advantage
to use these in order to be able to avoid having to create refuse
from batteries.
• Cheaper – Although the initial purchase is sure to be
an investment, those who stick with their solar energy systems are
sure to save money in the long run. For those who use this kind of
energy in their homes, it can take more than 10 years to see a return
on investment. But, those who use portable solar power are much more
likely to see a return on their investment much sooner. Mostly because
the initial investment isn’t nearly as large.
Also, the disadvantages:
• Heavy – Even though some of these can be quite light,
there are others that can weigh several pounds. Even if a system seems
light, for the hiker who is trekking hundreds of miles, even a little
bit of weight starts to take a toll pretty fast.
• Bulky – This is not true for all solar power systems,
but is true for some. They can be bulky and hard to fit into a backpack
or some other small place.
After all is said and done, portable solar power is probably a good
purchase, but this may vary depending on each person’s needs.
