Residential
solar power is not a new option. However, in the last several years
there has been much advancement in its technological realm. As a result,
the equipment continues to become easier and easier to use as well as
more and more efficient.
In spite of this, there are still many lingering misconceptions
which arose from the earlier models. Here are a few examples of these
myths:
• Solar energy can only be used during the daytime.
– This is untrue. Because these systems are commonly connected
to a battery that stores the power that has been created, they are able
to produce energy anytime needed.
Also, it is important to note that solar power systems
can be connected to the local power grid. This means that they offer
substantial benefits as available, but do not require individuals to
rely solely upon the energy they provide.
• A cloudy day dooms the solar collection of a
residential solar power system – It is true that a higher availability
of sunlight will result in more reliable collection of solar energy.
However, solar energy is still produced or collected on cloudy days.
Germany experiences year-round rain. Approximately two
thirds of daylight is spent under cloudy skies. In spite of this, the
country leads the world in the generation of solar power.
• The panels are huge – The standard panels
several years ago were quite large, but the ones of today are much smaller.
In face, effective roof panels may be purchased that are as small as
4X6 feet. If that isn’t small enough, there are several types
of portable and foldable panels that can be used as well on a smaller
scale.
While the advancement in the realm of residential solar
power has been quite formidable, it is likely that the technology will
continue to progress.
