Solar
batteries are among the most important aspects of a solar energy system,
yet still many people don’t understand how to use them or why
they are so important.
Some additional information about solar batteries can be found here
or on solar-batteries.net:
• Essentially all new batteries will not have reached full capacity
until it has been cycled between 10 and 30 times. A battery that is
brand new will typically have between 5 and 10 percent less than the
rated capacity.
• Batteries need to be watered after they have been charged,
unless the plates are already exposed. If these plates are exposed,
there should be just enough water to cover the plates added.
• During those times when multiple batteries are being used
in a series connection, the replacement batteries should be the same
size and type and perform the same function in order to preserve continuity
and efficiency.
• The flooded batteries that have vent caps on top of them need
to have those caps in place. Having this cap prevents a loss of water
and splashing when bubbling occurs.
Remembering these factoids about solar batteries can help the owner
when purchasing as well as when he performs maintenance.
