Solar generators

Solar generatorsSolar generators are ideal to have for a home in those cases where the lights go out because of a lack of electricity. Having a generator can help people avoid being stuck without electricity for short periods at a time.

And although these devices can be expensive investments, they can also be much less expensive thanks to the fact that they are not very hard to make at home for a fraction of the cost that people pay to buy them new.

These are the steps to follow to build solar generators:

• By a small solar panel. It is best to look for one that operates at 16 volts, although 12 is acceptable as well. This should cost approximately $100.

• Purchase a battery. It is best to look for a kind of a deep cycle battery for continual use. The size of the battery is not as important as its function. The best bet would be to get a 12 volt lead/acid or gel battery. This will cost around $50.

• Protect the battery by purchasing a battery box for about $10. In addition to protecting the battery, it will protect children who may get too close for comfort.

• Get a 12 volt DC meter. It is important to make sure that the voltage matches up on each of the items purchased. These can be purchased for around $25.

• Buy a $10 DC input. It is not important to get one that would be used for mass amounts of electricity. This will be used to power things like CD players, radios, electric razors, lamps and other smaller items.

While there may be a few other purchases that need to be made (like a 115-volt 140 watt converter -- $50) , the aforementioned items include basically everything that will need to be purchased to make sure that the solar generators that are built truly can cost less than $300.
