Perhaps
one of the most environmentally friendly solar panel power systems
is one that combines the power of the sun with that of the wind. A
solar/wind hybrid is a growing solution to remote location power issues.
Most off the grid power systems require some sort of back-up, if
electricity is desired at all times any time. A gas generator is a
common type of back-up. Of course, if the goal is to stay as environmentally
friendly as possible, a gas generator is not the best solution –
it requires a non renewable resource (gas), and it emits toxins into
the air.
Wind, on the other hand, is a renewable and clean energy source.
And when combined with a solar panel power system, wind energy is
a great back-up system. Year-round energy production can be expected
with such a hybrid. If it is windy, a windmill will generate power,
even when there is no direct light for the solar panels to generate
energy.
The best uses for a wind/solar panel power system are off-grid locations
that are also relatively small. It can be used in homes, farms, cabins,
and even schools. Solar panels can be mounted directly to the wind
turbine tower (mount them where they will receive the most direct
sunlight throughout the day).
