Thinking of the social, economic, and environmental benefit of schools installing solar panels, Pennsylvania has started a state grant program for schools who install and utilize renewable technologies. Such technologies include passive solar space heat, solar space heat, solar water heat, and photovoltaics (i.e. solar panels).

The Governor’s Green Government Council offers incentives to any schools that build with efficiency in mind, using passive solar heating methods and/or using active methods with solar panels. Pennsylvania is one of a relatively few states that offers a solar rebate program specifically for schools.

These grants will run at an average of $20,000, but the exact amount depends on the size of projects. These grants can be used for modeling costs and simulation. Other states do have incentives for installing solar panels – Pennsylvania is not the only one.
