In recent years, solar power in New Mexico has been carefully thought over and the principles that those in the state are using to grow the use of this kind of energy in the state have been well received.
A couple of years ago, there were two big things that happened that continue to affect solar power in New Mexico.
First of all, the state received $20 million in bonds to put solar panels on schools and state buildings across the state. This initiative has seen much growth among those who want to use solar energy.
Secondly, there was a law passed by the new Mexico Public Regulatory Commission that called for the main local utility company to buy renewable energy credits for 13 cents per kilowatt hour from those systems that are hooked up to local grids.
According to the law, those who use solar power in New Mexico will be able to tie their solar energy system to the local grid and receive credits for the solar energy produced at least until 2018. At that time, the price could go up or down from 13 cents.
