The
solar power Iowa residents are using is a good start, but even more
advancements could be made if people would better understand how solar
energy can help them.
Among other things, if approximately 1,000 acres of land in Iowa were
taken and covered with photovoltaic cells (solar panels), the following
would occur:
•The energy needed for more than 100,000 would be supplied –
This holds true in other states as well. In the sunshine states, even
more homes could receive the proper amount of energy.
• More than 1.2 million tons of CO2 could be avoided –
because CO2 is dangerous to residents as well as the environment,
the less the better.
• Almost 450,000 tons of coal could be used elsewhere –
Because so much coal is used to supply energy, residents could see
a big break in energy used if they would be willing to invest more
in solar power. This number is even more significant on other states
that have a larger population and thus more users of electricity.
The solar power Iowa currently creates is a good start, but there
is still a long way to go.
