Swimming pool solar panels are not the same as photovoltaic solar panels. While both types of panels use the sun’s energy, they do it in entirely different ways. The former utilizes the sun’s energy passively, while the latter utilizes it actively.

Photovoltaic solar panels convert the sun’s energy into electricity. This electricity can be used to run lights, computers, heating and cooling systems, and many other basic household appliances.

Swimming pool solar panels, on the other hand, do not create electricity. The pool water is not heated by electricity. Rather, the water is heated directly (or indirectly) by the sun. Water is pumped up into the swimming pool solar panels (aka solar collectors) where the sun beats down on them and heats the water inside. Some collectors have a non-water liquid inside which is heated by the sun and, in turn, heats the water.
